Whether you’re building a remote base or tackling space-limited challenges like Skyblock, having an infinite water source in Minecraft can be a game-changer. It lets you access as much water as you need without constantly running to a river or lake.
Here’s how to set one up—using either two buckets or just a single water block.

🔹 Method 1: The Classic 2×2 Infinite Water Source (2 Buckets)
This is the easiest and most reliable method:
- Dig a 2×2 square (four blocks total).
- Place a water source block in two opposite corners (diagonally).
- The remaining two blocks will automatically convert into source blocks.
Now, no matter how many times you collect water from this square, it will refill itself—hence, infinite water!
Tip: Craft two buckets and fill them from any river, ocean, or lake nearby.

🔹 Method 2: Infinite Water Source With Just One Water Block
Need to work with just one bucket of water? It’s trickier, but totally doable.
- Dig a T-shaped hole in the ground (like a cross).
- Place a solid block one block higher at the top center of the T.
- Pour your single water source on the elevated block so it flows down into the shape below.
- Use bonemeal on the underwater ground to grow seagrass, locking the water in place.
- Scoop the water from the source—without it disappearing.
Now you can:
- Dig a standard 2×2 grid.
- Place your original water source in one corner.
- Refill your bucket from the T-shaped flow and pour it into the opposite corner of the 2×2.
- Voilà—your infinite water source is ready!
