The latest Fortnite update brings an unexpected twist to its Star Wars-themed season: Darth Vader is now an AI chatbot NPC. Fully voiced in the iconic tones of James Earl Jones, this version of Vader will not only fight alongside your squad—but also respond to your questions in real time.
While this new feature doesn’t change gameplay much, it adds a unique and entertaining layer to the battle royale experience. Just don’t expect intelligent conversations—Vader’s responses are more for laughs than tactical advantage.
Where to Find AI Darth Vader
The AI Darth Vader NPC spawns in one of three possible locations each match, replacing the previous Darth Vader Samurai boss. His position is randomized every game, just like when he first appeared in Fortnite three years ago.
Look for a parked Lambda-class shuttle—that’s your key indicator. The shuttle is visible from a distance and won’t disappear due to view settings. Here are the three potential spawn points:
- Vader Samurai’s Solitude (southwest corner of the map)
- Imperial checkpoint south of the Canyon Crossing tunnel
- Imperial checkpoint east of Foxy Floodgate, just over the nearby hill
How to Talk to Darth Vader
To chat with Vader, you’ll first need to:
- Defeat him in battle, along with his four stormtrooper guards. Be prepared for a tough fight—and expect other players to show up, too.
- Upon victory, a Force training portal will appear.
- Enter the portal to receive a red lightsaber, the lightsaber throw ability, and Vader’s allegiance.
Once Vader is on your side, you can talk to him using your mic:
- Hold the chat button while speaking
- Right D-pad on controllers
- Y key on keyboard
Vader’s responses are pre-programmed but delivered with classic Sith flair—sometimes even with unexpected language. (He’s already been patched after quoting a streamer’s on-air curse word.)
So if you’re looking for a dose of dark-side comedy mid-match, track down the shuttle and make Darth Vader your surprisingly chatty ally.
